6 | Australasian Fire and Emergency Service Authorities Council Annual Report 2010 Financial Summary • The 2009/10 financial year has been a successful one with AFAC recording a surplus of $142,808. The strong surplus has been driven by the excellent results gained by the successful Gold Coast Conference in 2009, continuing strong sales in AFAC Shop publications and a strong cash position. • Publications sales to the year ended June have gone extremely well. Overall sales have increased by 73% from the previous year. • During the year there were 132 new customers who purchased products from the AFAC Shop for the first time. These new customers represented a 40% increase over the previous financial year. Of these new customers there was a good mix from industry, training organisations and government organisations as well as overseas customers from places as varied as India, Sweden and the UK. • The AFAC annual conference has continued to go from strength to strength. The Gold Coast Conference was no exception with record numbers of delegates and trade exhibitors in attendance. The conference is now regarded by suppliers to our industry as ‘the must attend’ conference for the fire and emergency services sector. • The AFAC balance sheet is in a strong position with total assets of approximately $7 million funded by 25 per cent member’s equity and 75 per cent debt.
